Think Before You Swipe (Years 10–12)

Students spot the biases and reasoning errors in what they watch, read and ask AI, and check a claim before they believe or share it.

Price

Free for schools. Free for government and lower-fee schools. Other schools, talk to us. Every paid corporate booking pays for a free session for students.

Who it's for

Year 10–12 classes of up to 30, and the teachers and coordinators looking after Critical and Creative Thinking.

The problem it solves

Teenagers are told to "think critically" quite a lot and shown how quite rarely. Students learn to question a confident answer, from a teacher, a feed or an AI, by catching the bias in it themselves. It's one double period, and by the end the room is arguing about evidence.

What happens in the session

A typical session runs like this.

  1. Intuition quiz: anchoring and framing. Most of the room gets caught, which is rather the point.
  2. Small-group bias-spotting challenge.
  3. Three biases that matter for study, social media and AI.
  4. Wrap-up: checking a claim before you believe or share it.

What students leave with

  • Practice at spotting biases and reasoning errors in what they watch, read and ask AI.
  • A habit of checking a claim before believing or sharing it.

Curriculum fit

Think Before You Swipe draws on Critical and Creative Thinking (Reasoning and Meta-Cognition strands, Levels 9–10). These codes are the Year 9–10 band, so they fit Year 10 best; Years 11–12 build on the same skills. This is alignment, not accreditation.

  • VCCCTR046: Reasoning errors, e.g. false dichotomies
  • VCCCTR047: Suppressed premises and assumptions
  • VCCCTM051: Thinking processes, including cognitive biases
  • VCCCTQ044: Suspending judgement
